Based on a memoir by Garrard Conley, this film adaptation undertakes name changes as it presents an account of a young man's experiences at a therapy program which specialises in gay conversion after he is forced to come out to his devoutly religious parents.

The performances from the entire cast are great, especially Lucas Hedges in the lead and Joel Edgerton gives a good supporting performance whilst also serving as writer, director and co-producer of the movie. It's probably quite unfortunate that he didn't receive an Oscar nomination for the screenplay. At least the Golden Globes recognised it, nominating Hedges for Best Actor (Drama).
